Senior Class 2017 - Guidance at a Glance Fall, 2016
The 2016-17 School year will be getting under way shortly! With that comes the transition for most Seniors from a traditional 7 block day to spending half their time in the Milan Center for Innovation Studies (‘MCIS’). The Senior MCIS Experience is a unique one, designed for the senior year, with an emphasis on the development of 21st century skills. Students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills within a project-based learning culture working toward career and college readiness. While participating in the MCIS program, students work in teams on predesigned projects, and student created projects that either present ideas for solving real world problems or create a product that addresses a target market. Internships, influential speakers, business partnerships, technology integration, and effective communication are all an emphasis in the center. We look forward to the Students embracing the change and the challenge of Project Based Learning (‘PBL’) and settling into the new routine. For more information regarding the MCIS visit: http://milancis.com/ ; and for downloadable important documents visit: http://milancis.com/student-documents.php
During October and November individual Senior Meeetings were held to review their transcript audits, graduation requirements, and to discuss their plans for life after graduation. Students are encourage to make an appointment any time during the year that guidance / support is needed @ The MHS Guidance Webpage: http://mhs-guidanceataglance.weebly.com/
I am look forward to working with the Class of 2017 both collectively and individually throughout the year! And, seeing them cross the stage Sunday, June 4th @ 2:00 p.m. in the Gymnasium for Milan High School’s Class of 2017 Commencement.

Senior Attendance Policy
The senior attendance policy is intended to be similar to a professional work environment. As a Senior there are 7 days that may be used throughout the year for absences. These are available for both excused and unexcused absences. School Business and field trips will not count against the 7 days. Days that are not used may be used for early release at the end of the school year. Students who go over their 7 days are required to return the Monday morning following graduation to write a reflection on the importance of attendance. For more info regarding the senior attendance policy visit: http://milancis.com/student-documents.php .
Seniors Keep Those Grades up!
Colleges will be looking at how you ‘cross the finish line!’ Finish Strong! If additional academic support is needed help is available after school in the Media Center Monday through Friday from 2:15 – 3:30 p.m.
The Net Price Calculator is a tool that you can use to estimate your “net price” to attend a particular college or university. Net price is the difference between the “sticker” price (full cost) to attend a specific college, minus any grants and scholarships for which you may be eligible. Sticker price includes direct charges (tuition and fees, room and board) and indirect costs (books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses). http://netpricecalculator.collegeboard.org/
